Requirements for Export Transportation of Lithium-ion Batteries

Due to the hazardous nature of lithium-ion batteries, the violations in their packaging and transportation have been

increasingly scrutinized, and various regulatory bodies have introduced restrictive requirements for their transportation.

These requirements include:

1. Lithium-ion batteries and equipment must be classified as one of the nine categories of dangerous goods and

declared accordingly, with the corresponding dangerous goods certificate provided.

2. The batteries must pass the UN38.3 test requirements and a 1.2-meter drop and impact test.

3. The batteries must be packaged in compliance with transportation requirements, with the outer packaging labeled

with the corresponding product name and UN number, as well as the nine categories of dangerous goods labels.

The container should also have corresponding hazardous goods markings.

4. The packaging of lithium-ion batteries must be adequately reinforced, for example, by using pallets for loading

and airbags for reinforcement between gaps to prevent crushing or impact. The batteries should not be stacked

on top of each other.

For the sea freight export of UN3480 lithium-ion batteries, the following four

documents are mainly required:

1. Results of the dangerous goods transportation packaging identification, commonly known as the dangerous

goods certificate.

2. UN38.3 test report for lithium-ion batteries.

3. English version of the MSDS.

4. Sea freight consignment note (with information such as product name, quantity, net weight, gross weight,

UN, CLASS, consignee, consignor, etc., in both Chinese and English).
